We would love for you to get to know our family! My name is Kristy, I am the voice of our accounts. My husband TJ and I have been together for 15 years and have four amazing children. In October of 2020 we made a huge decision that changed our life, we moved from our home state of Florida to Colorado! This decision was not something we took lightly but our youngest son Robbie needed the medical care and Medicaid waivers that could only be provided here.
When we arrived in Colorado Robbie was referred to Make-A-Wish. Robbie had been eligible since he was two years old, but we wanted to wait until we truly knew what would benefit our son! Robbie lives with a rare form of Epilepsy that does not respond well to medications. He has been through almost every seizure medication, a corpus callosotomy brain surgery, VNS implant and multiple special diets. Unfortunately, he still suffers from daily seizures putting him at a higher risk of SUDEP (Sudden unexpected death in Epilepsy). Robbie is extremely medically fragile so when the pandemic started, we stopped traveling. Wishing for a camper for him meant we could safely hit the road again and as a family we were ecstatic.
Once we started traveling, I realized there was not enough information readily available to plan wheelchair accessible adventures. I started building a community with fellow RV travelers and special needs parents. I asked them questions about places they had gone and what they thought we could handle. Shortly after that we created our first Accessible Adventures social media account on Instagram @Accessible.adventures ! I truly hope that our presence inspires others with all abilities to enjoy all that. nature has to offer. The journey of medical parenthood can be heavy, we are here to hold a safe space for you. You are not alone. If you have any questions my inbox is always open.
